About Erin McCoy
Erin McCoy Alarcon builds a career at the intersection of law and dispute resolution. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Mount Holyoke College in 1998 and graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2001. Those academic foundations inform a practical approach to complex family and civil matters.
Her legal career began in the Massachusetts Superior Court, where she served as a judicial law clerk in 2001. That year in court provided early exposure to litigation, evidentiary practice and judicial decision-making. She moved into private practice the following year as an associate at Donovan Hatem. The pace was brisk; she sharpened litigation skills and courtroom experience during those formative years.
Alarcon spent subsequent years in several law office settings. In 2003 she worked at the Law Offices of John Schulte and in 2005 joined Melick & Porter as a lawyer. Those positions added transactional and client counseling dimensions to her skill set. She also joined community and nonprofit boards, serving on the Episcopal City Mission board beginning in 2008, which brought another perspective on community needs and organizational governance.
In 2016 she opened Erin Alarcon Mediation and listed herself as owner and lawyer-mediator. That step marked a shift from primarily adversarial practice toward facilitated resolution. She also took on a public role on the Stoneham Disability Commission the same year. Her professional activities reflect a balance between court work, mediation and civic service.
Alarcon is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and holds certification as a New Hampshire Certified Family Mediator from the NH Family Mediator Certification Board. She maintains memberships in several professional groups, including the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the New England Conflict Resolution Association and the Woburn Business Association. Those affiliations keep her connected to peers across the legal and mediation communities.
Clients and colleagues describe her style as straightforward and methodical. She draws on legal training and quantitative background when breaking down disputes into manageable issues. In mediation sessions she emphasizes clear communication and practical options rather than protracted litigation.
She remains active in mediation practice through Erin Alarcon Mediation, where she works on family-related matters and civil disputes using mediated settlement techniques. Her current practice centers on resolving disputes through mediation and related alternative dispute resolution processes.
