Erin Lane began her professional path at the intersection of politics and law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from San Diego State University in 2003, then continued her legal studies at Western Washington University, receiving her J.D. in 2007.
Her career started immediately after law school. In 2007 she joined the Law Office of Russell Hanf as a lawyer. A year later she moved into a supervisory role as Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Department Supervisor at Michael A. Grassmueck, Inc., where she worked on consumer bankruptcy matters and oversaw case administration. By 2010 she was practicing at Phillips Webster P.L.L.C., and in 2012 she took on the role of Managing Lawyer at Washington Law Group, PLLC.
