About Erik

Erik Milch earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1993 and completed his J.D. at George Mason University School of Law in 1999. His path combines a technical undergraduate education with a legal degree earned at the end of the 20th century. That combination has informed the environments in which he has practiced law since entering the profession.

After law school he built a practice that spans private firm work and appearances in federal courts. He is a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. He holds admissions to state bars in Virginia and New York, and he is registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted to practice in several federal districts, including Delaware, Northern and Central Districts of California, Northern District of Texas, Eastern Districts of Massachusetts, Texas and Virginia, and the Western District of Pennsylvania, and he is admitted to the Fourth Circuit.

Milch’s technical training supports work that touches on patent matters and other intellectual property issues. His registration with the Patent and Trademark Office means he handles matters that require both technical understanding and legal analysis. He represents clients in federal district courts and has authority to appear in appellate proceedings in the Fourth Circuit. His experience includes proceedings before trial courts and administrative patent forums, reflecting the variety of forums available for IP disputes and protection.

In his role as a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, Milch advises clients on patent prosecution and litigation strategies and handles related federal court matters. He brings a background in engineering into legal questions that involve technical subject matter and federal litigation procedures. He currently practices as a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, where his work centers on intellectual property matters before federal courts and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
