About Eric Scott

Eric Scott Tilton followed a steady academic path into the law. He earned a B.S. in Law and Society from American University in 2001. He then received his J.D. from Hofstra University in 2006. Those credentials set the stage for a practice that crosses both state and federal lines.

Tilton built a practice that includes appearances in state court and in federal venues. He is admitted to the bar of New York. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Those admissions reflect experience handling matters that move beyond a single courtroom.

Early in his career, Tilton drew on his academic background to tackle litigation and appellate assignments. He has handled briefs and oral arguments in appellate settings, and he has been involved in contested matters in trial courts. He approaches each matter with attention to legal detail and procedural posture. He prepares cases for argument and reviews trial records to identify issues that may carry forward on appeal.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prefers clear analysis over rhetorical flourish. He writes to persuade judges and to give clients a realistic view of options and risks. His work requires translating complex factual records into discrete legal questions. That skill has been useful in appellate filings and in higher-stakes trial work where records and precedent matter.

Tilton’s admissions to multiple forums mean he is familiar with the differing rules that govern state and federal litigation. He handles the mechanics of federal appeals as well as the schedule pressures of trial practice. The range of venues has informed his approach to strategy: prepare the record at trial, think forward to appellate review, and align motions and briefs to those ends.

He maintains an active practice in New York and appears in both state and federal courts. His work today continues to involve trial preparation, briefing, and appellate advocacy in the courts where he is admitted. He currently practices law in New York, appearing in state and federal courts.
