About Eric
Eric Olson earned his law degree from Hamline University School of Law, receiving a J.D. in 1997. He completed his legal studies after a steady course through the mid-1990s and entered the Minnesota legal community soon afterward.
He began practicing law in Minnesota and built practical courtroom experience over the years. In 2001 he opened Olson Defense and took on the responsibilities of owner and lawyer. Opening his own firm allowed him to shape a small practice that handles a broad range of matters in state courts.
Colleagues describe Olson as straightforward in court and thorough in preparation. He has spent much of his career representing clients in Minnesota. That experience extends from early litigation work to the varied caseload a solo firm encounters. He handles intake, client counseling, negotiation and trial work himself, rather than outsourcing those core tasks.
Over two decades in practice taught him the rhythms of local courts and how procedures differ from county to county. He has developed working relationships with court staff and opposing counsel across the state. Those relationships inform how he schedules hearings, approaches plea negotiations and manages case timelines.
Olson’s practice has operated out of Olson Defense since 2001. The firm is modest in size, which allows him to be involved in the details of each matter. He draws on long-standing ties in the community when preparing cases and determining strategic options. He is a member of the Minnesota bar and continues to maintain his practice in the state.
He has not published widely nor held public office, and there are no listed academic appointments at this time. His work has centered on client representation and courtroom advocacy rather than scholarship or bar leadership positions.
Outside the office he spends time keeping up with changes in procedural rules and local practice. He adapts his approach as court procedures evolve and as case law develops. He currently practices at Olson Defense, representing clients in Minnesota state courts.
