About Eric M.
Eric M. Matheny trained as a student of politics before he trained as a lawyer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Arizona State University, then completed his J.D. at St. Thomas University School of Law. Those two institutions set the foundation for a career centered in Florida courts.
After law school, Matheny moved into public prosecution. In 2009 he served as an Assistant State Lawyer in the Miami-Dade State Lawyer’s Office. That post put him in courtrooms early and often. He handled filings, appeared at hearings and worked on case preparation alongside career prosecutors. The role gave him direct exposure to trial procedure and case management in one of the state’s busiest jurisdictions.
His time at the Miami-Dade office shaped how he approaches litigation. He learned to manage complex dockets, coordinate with investigators and present legal arguments under pressure. Colleagues from that period describe a lawyer comfortable with courtroom cadence and the practical demands of state-level cases. Matheny’s record from that time reflects steady courtroom work rather than headline-making litigation.
Matheny remains a member of the Florida State Bar Association. He has continued to practice in Florida since his early career in Miami-Dade. Over the years he transitioned from government service into private practice. That move allowed him to apply prosecutorial experience to representation that required an understanding of both sides of the aisle in state court matters.
He now operates The Law Offices of Eric M. Matheny, P.A. There he represents clients in matters arising in Florida state courts and handles the procedural and substantive dimensions those matters require. His practice centers on state court litigation and related proceedings in Florida.
