About Eric L.
Eric L. Toscano trained first as a scientist and economist before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in economics from Stanford University in 1996 and completed combined sciences coursework at Santa Clara University the year before. He graduated from the University of California, Davis, School of Law in 2006 and left law school with a Public Service Certificate and a Pro Bono Certificate.
He began his legal career in public service settings. In 2007 he worked as a law clerk in the Government Division of the Office of the City Attorney of San Francisco. The following year he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Morrison C. England, Jr. at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, and he also spent a summer as an associate at Reed Smith LLP in 2008.
Toscano returned to Reed Smith as a lawyer in 2010. After gaining experience in a larger firm environment he launched his own practice in 2012 as Toscano Law. Two years later he helped form Toscano Kellogg & Van Aken LLP as a founding partner. In 2016 he became CEO and managing lawyer of Tenant Law Group, PC, where he leads the firm’s practice and day-to-day operations.
Alongside private practice, Toscano has stayed active in local bar organizations and community service. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Solo/Small Firm Section since 2014. He held leadership roles in the BASF Barristers Club, including vice president from 2012 to 2013 and co-chair of the Pro Bono and Community Service Committee in 2011. He has been a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association since 2013 and has participated in committees such as the BASF Technology Committee and the Italian American Bar Association of Northern California.
His practice concentrates on tenant and housing law, including housing-related litigation and landlord-tenant disputes. He is admitted to practice in California and has appearance privileges before the Ninth Circuit. His earlier public-sector work and bar pro bono activities inform his approach to cases that touch on housing policy and tenant rights.
Toscano maintains an office at Tenant Law Group, PC, where he continues to represent tenants and handle housing-related litigation and counseling matters in California and federal courts. He currently practices tenant and housing law at Tenant Law Group, PC.
