About Eric Joe
Eric Joe Benavides earned his B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and completed his J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law in 2007. He went straight from law school into work that placed him inside Texas courts. Early training at law school and the years that followed gave him practical exposure to criminal matters in the state.
His involvement in the local legal community includes service on the Board of Directors for the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association. On that board he has worked with other criminal practitioners on programs and member services. Colleagues describe his participation as steady and hands-on; he has taken part in continuing legal education events and local bar activities tied to criminal defense practice.
Benavides is also a member of statewide and national groups that concentrate on criminal defense and DUI defense. He belongs to the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and to the National College of DUI Defense. Those memberships keep him connected to evolving case law, procedural changes, and specialized training in impaired-driving litigation.
In the courtroom he represents people charged with state offenses across Texas. His work includes handling driving-under-the-influence matters and other criminal cases that arise in county and municipal courts. He advises clients on their options, appears at hearings, and manages exchanges with prosecutors. He prepares pretrial motions and advocates for clients at arraignments and status settings as cases move through the system.
Outside court, Benavides engages in professional development activities and contributes to the local defense bar through educational efforts. He participates in seminars and roundtables that address trial practice, evidence issues, and sentencing strategies. He maintains memberships that inform his approach to case assessment and client counseling.
He practices in Texas and continues to work on criminal defense and DUI cases in Harris County and elsewhere in the state. He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense and DUI representation in Texas.
