About Eric B.
Eric B. Smith built his legal foundation at Franklin & Marshall College, where he earned a B.A., and then at Dickinson College, where he received his J.D. He returned from law school into a region where bar associations and local legal institutions play a large role in professional life. Early on, he found a steady rhythm between practice and bar work.
He began participating in the Montgomery County Law Reporter at the close of the 1990s. In 1999 he joined its editorial board. By 2001 he was serving as editor and also chaired the Montgomery Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Those editorial roles gave him a platform for discussing local rules, court administration and emerging practice issues.
The next several years saw a steady succession of leadership posts in Montgomery County and statewide organizations. He was on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division executive committee in 2002. In 2004 he served as a Zone 9 delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates. He later joined the Montgomery Bar Association board as a director in 2006 and led its executive committee in 2007. Committee work continued to be part of his agenda: he chaired the Montgomery Bar Association Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee in 2009 and the Long Range Planning Committee in 2011.
Peers recognized his trajectory. In 2005 Law & Politics Magazine named him a Pennsylvania Rising Star. That same period included editorial and committee service on the Montgomery County Law Reporter, where he chaired the publication in 2005 and contributed to the staff and committee work in preceding years.
Smith has remained a member of the Pennsylvania State Bar. His varied roles speak to sustained engagement with bar governance, court procedure and professional regulation. He has balanced practice duties with governance responsibilities for more than two decades. Colleagues who worked with him on committees describe someone who is methodical in committee proceedings and attentive to procedural detail.
He practices at Timoney Knox, LLP and remains active in Pennsylvania bar circles. His career shows a pattern of steady service in local and state bar institutions and in editorial work on county legal publications. He is currently practicing law at Timoney Knox, LLP in Pennsylvania.
