About Ergio
Ergio Fernandez began his legal path in South Florida. He earned his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in 1999 after beginning law studies in 1996. The degree launched a career that has moved between public service, private practice and courtroom work.
Fresh out of law school he joined the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office as an assistant state lawyer in 1999. That early experience placed him on the front lines of criminal prosecution and trial procedure. Six years later he entered private practice as a partner at DMGPA in 2005. There he handled a mix of contested matters and courtroom work. In 2012 he opened Fernandez Legal Group, P.A., where he is a founding partner and oversees the office’s day-to-day operations.
His admissions include the Florida bar and appearance rights before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Those credentials have supported work in state and federal matters. Colleagues describe him as steady in litigation and methodical in case preparation. He combines trial experience from his years as a state attorney with the strategic demands of private practice.
Fernandez maintains memberships in a range of professional groups. He has been a member of the Association of Federal Defense Lawyers since 2013. He joined the American Bar Association and the Cuban American Bar Association in 2014. In 2016 he became a member of the Dade County Bar Association. Since 2017 he has held memberships in the National Trial Lawyers Association, the American Institute of Family Law Lawyers and the American Registry. These affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with professional networks and continuing legal education.
Throughout his career he has balanced courtroom work with case management and client counseling. He has been both a prosecutor and a private attorney, which gives him perspectives on trial tactics and plea negotiations. He runs a small firm where he handles intake, strategy and appearances, often guiding cases from filing through resolution.
His practice in Miami draws on his years in public office and private practice. He continues to litigate matters in state courts and to appear in federal proceedings where appropriate. He currently concentrates his practice on family law and federal defense matters.
