About Emily
Emily Sullivan earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2003 after completing undergraduate studies at Tufts University in 2000. She arrived in the profession at a moment when large-firm litigation work was changing fast. Her academic training combined a broad liberal arts background with three years of intensive legal study, preparing her for courtroom practice and dispute resolution.
She began her legal career the year she graduated, joining Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach as an associate. Two years later she moved to Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, where she continued to develop litigation experience. In 2007 she took on a partner-level role at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP, stepping into bigger matter responsibilities and team leadership during a period of steady growth in her practice.
Over the next decade Sullivan shifted between firms and roles, taking on positions that expanded both her geographic reach and the scope of matters she handled. In 2017 she became a lawyer and member of Heritage Law LLC. The following year she joined PEAK Litigation as a partner. In 2021 she took a partner post at Heritage Law LLP, returning to a firm environment where she combines casework with firm management tasks.
Sullivan holds licenses to practice in six states: Kansas, Florida, California, Wisconsin, Missouri and New York. She is an approved Rule 17 mediator through The Missouri Bar, which authorizes court-annexed mediation services in that state. Her professional memberships include the Kansas State Bar, the Florida Bar, the State Bar of California, the New York State Bar and the Wisconsin State Bar. She also belongs to the Association of Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City and the American Bar Association.
Her practice has centered on litigated civil matters and dispute resolution. She handles pretrial strategy, motion practice and court hearings, and she serves as a mediator in cases referred by Missouri courts. Colleagues describe her as steady in the courtroom and rigorous in case preparation. She divides her work across the jurisdictions where she is admitted and manages matters that require multi-state coordination. Her current practice emphasizes litigation and court-approved mediations across the jurisdictions where she is licensed.
