About Emily J.
Emily J. Ogden completed both her undergraduate and legal education at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2019 and returned to the same campus to receive her Juris Doctor in 2023. The back-to-back degrees anchored her transition from literary study to law.
She arrived in the legal profession straight out of law school. In 2023 she joined the family law practice at Goranson Bain Ausley. That year marked the start of her work in contested and uncontested family matters, moving quickly from classroom theory into client representation.
Ogden’s early responsibilities have included advising clients, preparing pleadings and motions, and participating in settlement negotiations. She has stood for clients in hearings and in chambers conferences, and she has worked on the documentation needed for marital dissolution, child custody, and support matters. Her caseload has required attention to both legal detail and the practical realities families face during dispute resolution.
Colleagues describe her as methodical and direct in court filings and client meetings. She balances shorter, task-driven work—drafting orders, collecting financial information—with longer projects such as preparing for trial. The practice has exposed her to a range of family law issues: division of community assets, parenting plans, temporary relief requests and post-judgment modifications. She spends time negotiating settlements as well as preparing cases for contested proceedings when agreement cannot be reached.
Her educational background in English contributes to how she approaches drafting and argument. Clear writing and careful reading of statutes, orders and agreements are regular parts of her day. She also manages client communications and coordinates with forensic accountants, mediators and other professionals when cases call for that expertise.
Ogden’s work remains rooted in the Texas courts and the state’s statutory framework for family law.
