About Ellen

Ellen Weintraut began her academic journey at Drury University, where she studied Spanish and environmental studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts. She went on to earn a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 2005. Those academic choices set a tone for a career that crosses language, culture and law.

After law school, Weintraut built a practice in immigration law. She is admitted to practice in Oregon and is authorized to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Over time she has combined courtroom work and administrative advocacy, representing clients in proceedings before immigration agencies and pursuing appeals when cases move into federal court.

Weintraut is an active member of professional groups that align with her practice. She is currently a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and of Oregon Women Lawyers. She participates in those circles to stay current on changes in federal and state immigration policy and to exchange practical insights with colleagues.

Colleagues describe Weintraut as deliberate in legal analysis and clear in client communications. She approaches each matter by identifying the concrete steps available under governing statutes and regulations, and by preparing clients for the procedural stages they will encounter. Her practice requires working with documentation, deadlines and standards of proof, and she structures cases to reflect that procedural reality.

She works from Northwest Immigration Law, PLLC, where she handles immigration matters arising in Oregon and beyond. Her caseload has included matters that require appearances before administrative bodies and filings in federal court, including the Ninth Circuit. She balances day-to-day casework with courtroom and appellate preparation when a matter advances that far.

In the office she combines casework with continuing education and the professional exchange fostered by her association memberships. That mix shapes how she advises clients and how she prepares for litigation and appeals. She practices immigration law at Northwest Immigration Law, PLLC, representing clients in Oregon and before the Ninth Circuit.
