About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Wang graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in political science in 2001 and went on to earn her J.D. from the same law school in 2005. She completed her undergraduate studies in 1997–2001 and then finished law school in 2002–2005, following a course of study that combined rigorous academic work with practical research projects. The University of Chicago shaped her legal reasoning and introduced her to issues of public policy and constitutional law.

Her first professional role after law school was as a legal fellow at the American Civil Liberties Union’s Drug Law Reform Project in 2005. In that position she worked on litigation and policy research related to drug law reform. The fellowship placed her at the intersection of litigation, policy analysis, and client advocacy during a period of growing public debate about drug policy and criminal justice.

Wang moved into federal judicial clerkships after her fellowship. She served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 2006. The following year she clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Those roles gave her first-hand experience on both the appellate and trial sides of the federal system. She drafted bench memoranda, assisted in opinion preparation, and conducted in-depth legal research for judges handling a wide range of civil and criminal matters.

She is admitted to practice in Colorado and Illinois. Her affiliations include continuing involvement with the American Civil Liberties Union and membership in the National Lawyers Guild. Those connections reflect an ongoing engagement with civil liberties and public-interest legal circles. Colleagues describe her as methodical in the courtroom and exacting in legal analysis.

Wang’s trajectory — from a law reform fellowship to federal clerkships — set the stage for a practice that often involves federal litigation and constitutional issues. She has developed experience that spans research, writing, and courtroom preparation. Her work continues to draw on federal-court procedure and constitutional law principles.

She currently practices in Colorado and Illinois, where her work centers on civil liberties and federal-court litigation.
