About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Jordan studied history and law at two East Coast institutions before building a career that has moved between litigation, policy work and classroom teaching. She earned a B.A. from Yale University in 2006 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2013. Those academic years set the stage for work in public interest law and immigration practice.

Her first professional placement after law school was as a fellow with the Capital Appeals Project in New Orleans in 2013. That role placed her in post-conviction and appellate matters arising from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and other civil rights issues in Louisiana. In 2015 she took an immigration staff lawyer position at The Doors Legal Services Center in New York. There she handled direct client representation and administrative immigration matters in a high-volume legal services environment.

In 2018 Jordan moved to Denver and helped launch the Immigration Detention Accountability Project at the Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center. She served as the project’s founding director. The project combined impact litigation, policy advocacy and community outreach to address conditions in immigration detention facilities and to press for changes in enforcement practices.

Her work has also included a turn in legal education. In 2022 she joined the faculty at Sturm College of Law, University of Denver as an adjunct instructor for the Asylum Law and Advocacy Practicum. That clinic-style course paired students with clients seeking asylum and allowed Jordan to supervise law students on screening, case preparation and courtroom advocacy.

Jordan is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Colorado and Louisiana. She holds current memberships in the New York State Bar and the Louisiana State Bar. Her practice has spanned litigation, client representation in removal and asylum proceedings, and strategic advocacy aimed at detention conditions and enforcement mechanisms.

She is based in Denver at the Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center, where she continued work on detention accountability and related civil rights matters. Her current practice concentrates on immigration detention, asylum and civil rights enforcement.
