About Elizabeth A.

Elizabeth A. Bewley graduated from Yale University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in history. She then attended Harvard Law School, earning her J.D. in 2015. Those formative academic years set a clear path toward appellate work and courtroom practice.

After law school Bewley took two federal clerkships that shaped her early career. In 2015 she served as a law clerk to Judge Thomas B. Griffith on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The following year she clerked for Justice Elena Kagan at the U.S. Supreme Court. Those consecutive clerking positions exposed her to high-stakes written and oral advocacy and to the mechanics of federal appellate decision-making.

Following her clerkships she joined private practice. She is a senior associate at WilmerHale. Her role there advanced quickly from research and brief drafting to managing complex pleadings and motions. Colleagues describe her work as precise. She is often the author of appellate briefs and memoranda in federal matters.

Her professional affiliations reflect her move into Massachusetts practice. Bewley has been a member of the Massachusetts State Bar since 2016 and maintains that membership through the present. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and participates in bar activities tied to appellate procedure and federal practice.

Clients and opposing counsel have encountered her in appellate filings and courtroom proceedings. Her background in history and rigorous legal training inform the way she frames legal narratives. She writes tightly and places legal issues in their factual and doctrinal context. That approach carries through in oral argument preparation and in supervising more junior lawyers on complex matters.

Outside the courtroom she has contributed to internal firm panels and training on appellate briefing and standards of review. She also mentors junior associates, drawing on her clerkship experience to advise on effective briefing and argument techniques. Her colleagues say she is methodical and direct, preferring clarity over ornament in legal work.

She is based at WilmerHale and practices in Massachusetts, where her current practice draws on her appellate clerkship experience and focuses on appellate and complex federal litigation matters.
