About Elissa I.

Elissa I. Henry built her academic foundation at New York University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature in 2010. She went on to pursue legal studies at Baylor Law School and received her Juris Doctor in 2016. Those years shaped her analytical approach and gave her a grounding in both critical reading and legal reasoning.

She practices in Texas. Early in her career she moved into matters that intersect law, ethics and professional regulation. In 2018 she served as chairperson of the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. That role placed her at the center of conversations about who may provide legal services and how jurisdictions enforce professional boundaries.

Serving as chairperson required frequent contact with regulators, practicing attorneys and lay members of the public. The committee work involved assessing complaints, advising on policy and helping to clarify statutory and rule-based limits on practice. Colleagues from that period describe her as methodical and attentive to process.

Before and after her committee leadership she handled a mix of matters that regularly bring questions of compliance and ethical duty to the fore. She has worked on issues tied to licensing, procedural safeguards and the responsibilities that accompany professional licensure. Her background in literature and law gives her a particular aptitude for close reading of rules and statutes.

Public-facing roles and committee work have left her familiar with how professional standards are applied in everyday legal work. She knows the practical pressures that prompt inquiries into unauthorized practice. At the same time she appreciates the need for clear rules that protect the public and provide predictable guidance for lawyers.

Outside formal committee service she remains active in professional circles and holds memberships in bar-related organizations. Her practice is based in Texas and she continues to engage on matters that touch professional regulation and the limits of legal practice. She currently focuses her practice on regulatory compliance and professional responsibility matters in Texas.
