About Ekaterina
Ekaterina Powell began her legal journey in Samara, Russia, where she earned an LL.B. from Samara State University. She later pursued advanced studies in the United States and completed an LL.M. at California Western School of Law. Those degrees established a cross-border foundation that informs her practice.
Powell moved into U.S. practice and built experience in immigration matters over the past decade and more. Early in her U.S. career she served as Managing Lawyer at the Law Offices of Jacob J. Sapochnick in 2010. That role placed her in a busy practice environment where she handled a variety of case types and court processes.
In 2016 she took on the title of Executive Lawyer at Powell Immigration Law. The position name reflects an elevated role in firm operations as well as client work. Across both roles she has worked on case preparation, filing, and counsel in administrative settings.
She holds membership in the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the American Society of Legal Advocates. She is also admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Those affiliations connect her to national and regional networks of immigration practitioners and court procedures.
Colleagues describe Powell as methodical in case preparation and pragmatic in courtroom settings. She balances attention to procedural detail with the daily demands of clients facing immigration deadlines. Her background in Russian legal education and an American graduate degree gives her familiarity with comparative legal materials, translation challenges, and cases that involve foreign-born clients.
Powell’s work has involved both direct representation and oversight roles. As a managing lawyer she led teams and coordinated filings. As an executive lawyer she has been involved in firm-level decisions and client strategy. Her practical experience spans administrative petitions, court filings, and coordination with government agencies.
She continues to practice in California, maintaining memberships in professional organizations and admission to the federal court in the Southern District. Her current practice concentrates on immigration matters, handling filings, representation, and court appearances related to those issues.
