About Edwina B.

Edwina B. Clarke studied at Yale. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2009 and returned to Yale for law school, receiving her J.D. in 2013. Her academic record placed her on a path toward the federal bench where she spent the early years of her legal career learning the ropes of appellate and trial courts.

Clarke began a series of federal clerkships immediately after law school. In 2013 she served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The following year she clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. In 2015 she worked on the First Circuit Court of Appeal, and in 2016 she held a clerkship at the Supreme Court of the United States. Those consecutive positions exposed her to a broad range of litigation, from district court fact-finding to the procedural and substantive issues that come before the nation’s highest court.

After her clerkships, Clarke moved into private practice. In 2017 she joined Goodwin as an associate. Her time in private practice built on the procedural and appellate experience she gained on the bench. Colleagues describe her as precise in brief drafting and careful in legal research, skills that reflect the training she received over successive clerkships.

Clarke maintains admissions across several federal circuits. She is admitted in the Fourth, Third, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, and she is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She also holds membership in the Massachusetts State Bar. Those credentials enable her to handle matters that travel through different appellate venues and federal trial courts.

Her career trajectory shows a steady movement from academic study to intensive clerkship experience and then to firm practice. That path gave her repeated exposure to appellate briefing, oral argument preparation and district court procedure. She applies that background to cases that raise complex procedural or jurisdictional questions.

She is based at Goodwin and continues to practice in federal courts. She represents clients in matters that involve appellate and district court litigation and concentrates on federal appellate and district court matters.
