About Edwin M.
Edwin M. Hardy earned a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1989 after completing undergraduate studies in history and political science at East Carolina University. He later returned to study specialized litigation techniques, completing programs in bankruptcy litigation and trial skills at Gardner-Webb University in 2009, 2017 and 2018. Those later programs concentrated on practical courtroom work, damage awards in bankruptcy litigation and advanced litigation skills.
He began his private practice in 1989, founding Edwin M. Hardy, P.C. The firm name has been associated with his practice since that year. Over his career he has litigated in state and federal courts and is admitted in North Carolina and to the Federal Circuit and the Fourth Circuit, giving him an appellate reach beyond trial courts.
Public service has been a recurring part of Hardy’s career. He served in the North Carolina General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives in the mid-1990s and chaired the House Judiciary Committee in 1996. In 1997 he is recorded as holding roles on several state bodies, including the North Carolina Courts Commission, the Joint Legislative Commission on Seafood and Aquaculture, and the Governor’s Crime Commission. In local health administration he served as chairman of the board of Beaufort County Health Systems in 2003.
Hardy’s professional affiliations include membership in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers. Association listings show his involvement dating to the 1990s and membership records note him in 2002. Those ties reflect a long-running engagement with consumer bankruptcy issues and the community of attorneys who handle such matters.
His practice has a courtroom orientation. Case work and continuing legal education emphasize bankruptcy matters, consumer lawsuits and debtor litigation, together with trial skills sharpened through dedicated programs. He has handled appeals in federal appellate courts and prepared litigation on both liability and damages, drawing on the advanced coursework he completed at Gardner-Webb.
He maintains a presence beyond his local courthouse and has listed a Washington office among his professional locations. Today he continues to handle bankruptcy matters, consumer and debtor litigation, and appellate work in federal courts.
