About Edward

Edward Shanley built his legal foundation at Saint Anselm College and then at Wake Forest University School of Law. College years gave him a broad liberal arts base. Law school supplied the technical training and a route into court work. Those stepping stones led to a clerkship on the Rhode Island Superior Court in 1989, an early career stop that exposed him to courtroom procedure and trial calendars.

After the clerkship he moved into private practice and by 1990 was listed as a lawyer and partner at Coogan Smith McGahan Lorincz Jacabi & Shanley, LLP. That shift from the bench to a firm office set the pattern for a career spent practicing in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has appeared before state tribunals in both jurisdictions and has managed matters that cross state lines.

Shanley has balanced practice with local engagement. He served as president of the Attleboro Area Bar Association and remains active in the region’s legal circles. He has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association since 1990 and has participated in the New England Chapter of the Community Associations Institute Lawyers Committee since 2000. Those memberships indicate a long-running involvement with peers who handle condominium and homeowners’ association issues and the municipal problems that often accompany them.

Community work sits alongside his legal work. He is a director of the Attleboro YMCA and of HealthCare Options, Inc., and he holds membership in the Attleboro Lions Club. These roles place him in nonprofit governance and local civic networks. They also give him direct contact with institutions and residents affected by local law and policy.

Colleagues describe him as steady and practical in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. He moved from a courtroom clerkship into firm practice early and has stayed rooted in southeastern Massachusetts and nearby Rhode Island communities. That continuity has shaped a practice that often responds to local needs and disputes, as well as to the governance questions that come up for community associations and nonprofit boards.

Today he continues to practice through Coogan Smith McGahan Lorincz Jacabi & Shanley, LLP and remains active in bar and civic organizations across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He handles matters for clients in those states, including work involving community associations and local nonprofit entities.
