About Edward

Edward Jurkiewicz built a legal practice from steady work and long experience. He earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1989 after completing a B.A. at the University of Connecticut in 1981. Those academic years set the foundation for a practice rooted in Connecticut courts and the federal courts that serve the region.

After law school Jurkiewicz entered private practice in Connecticut. Records show he became owner of Lawrence & Jurkiewicz, LLC in 2007, and he has managed the firm since then. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. His career has involved both trial-level work and matters that touch on appellate procedures in the circuit court.

His work spans consumer and commercial matters. He handles consumer bankruptcy cases and creditor-debtor disputes. He also works on commercial bankruptcy issues, where businesses and lenders require counsel versed in insolvency and negotiated resolutions. On the family law side he assists clients with divorce and related proceedings, and he participates in collaborative approaches to family law matters.

Jurkiewicz is a member of several professional groups that reflect his practice areas. He belongs to the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce and to the Family Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers and the Commercial Law & Bankruptcy Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. Those memberships keep him connected to developments in bankruptcy law and family law practice in Connecticut.

He maintains offices in Torrington and Avon. Colleagues describe him as a practitioner who combines courtroom experience with steady client representation. He has taken cases that require negotiation, filings in federal and state courts, and work coordinated with other professionals such as trustees and mediators.

In practice today Jurkiewicz continues to accept matters in bankruptcy and family law, and he handles related commercial disputes. He currently concentrates his practice on consumer bankruptcy, family law matters including non-adversarial divorce, and commercial bankruptcy issues.
