About Duncan S.

Duncan S. Teed began his legal path in South Carolina and shaped his practice around tax law. He earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2003. Four years later he added an LL.M. in Taxation from Villanova University School of Law, a degree that deepened his technical understanding of federal and state tax rules.

Those degrees set a clear trajectory. After law school he established his practice in South Carolina, where he is authorized to appear before state courts and agencies. The LL.M. marked a move toward complex tax work: study of the Internal Revenue Code, regulatory guidance, and the tax consequences of business decisions. That background informs the work he takes on today.

Teed’s matters typically involve the detailed application of tax law to client problems. He advises on planning and compliance, prepares filings, and represents clients in interactions with tax authorities. He handles both business and individual issues, where the practical application of tax statutes and administrative rules matters as much as the underlying strategy. He also engages with transactional aspects when tax consequences affect contracts, corporate structures, or estate matters.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and exacting in document preparation and analysis. His training in taxation often guides how he approaches a file: identify applicable provisions, assess exposure, and weigh alternatives. He works through alternative solutions and prepares written analyses that clients can use when making decisions. In matters that involve negotiation or dispute resolution, he routinely coordinates with accountants and other professionals to present a coherent position.

Outside of casework, Teed has maintained ties to the legal community in South Carolina. He has participated in continuing legal education and kept current on tax developments that affect practitioners and taxpayers. He is based in South Carolina and conducts his practice there. He currently practices in South Carolina, concentrating on tax law and related matters.
