About Drummond T.
Drummond T. McCunn turned a technical undergraduate degree into a legal career that began nearly two decades after he earned his first diploma. He graduated from Duke University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical and electrical engineering. The early part of his path was shaped by engineering’s emphasis on problem solving and analysis. Those skills later found a different outlet in law school.
He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 2007. While in Sacramento, he worked in the Family Law Clinic, representing clients under supervision and gaining hands-on courtroom experience. That clinic work offered practical training on client interviews, negotiating settlements and preparing filings for family law matters.
Before graduation he gained practical courtroom and office experience. In 2005 he served as a certified law student, an opportunity that allowed him to take on real cases while still enrolled. The following summer he interned at Keegan and Myers in 2006, where he observed litigation practices and daily law office operations. Those early roles smoothed the transition from law student to practicing attorney.
In 2007 he opened McCunn Law and began representing clients in California. He is admitted to practice in California and is also admitted to the United States Tax Court. He has maintained a private practice that uses both the technical training from his engineering degree and the procedural skills learned at McGeorge. The combination of technical and legal training shapes how he approaches complex documents, statutes and tax filings.
Colleagues describe him as deliberate and pragmatic. He tends to break problems into component parts and address each with an eye for evidence and procedure. In family law matters, that often means meticulous preparation for negotiations or hearings. In tax-related proceedings, it means careful review of records and attention to deadlines. His work is practical and case-driven rather than theoretical.
McCunn Law now serves clients from multiple offices across the Sacramento region, including Roseville, Granite Bay, Folsom, North Sacramento and South Sacramento. He continues to handle matters that draw on his family law clinic background and on admissions that allow practice before tax courts. Today he maintains an active practice through McCunn Law from those offices and continues to represent clients in both state and federal tax proceedings.
