About Douglas Mark

Douglas Mark Gierhart is a Choctaw-based attorney with a diverse practice focusing on divorce, bankruptcy, estate planning, probate, and Social Security disability law. Admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1982, he is known for serving clients primarily in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Over the years, Mr. Gierhart has developed a knowledge of family law, navigating complex cases from initial filings to appeals. In 2018, Mr. Gierhart faced significant challenges when the Oklahoma Bar Association received two grievances against him. This led to a formal investigation that uncovered allegations of mishandling client funds and failing to competently represent clients.

As a result, he was suspended from practicing law for two years and one day, effective October 15, 2020. This period marked a pivotal moment in his career, prompting him to reflect on his professional responsibilities and ethics. During his suspension, Mr. Gierhart did not remain idle — He engaged in non-legal employment while also committing to his professional development. He completed 49 hours of continuing legal education, which included four hours specifically focused on ethics. Additionally, he contributed to the legal community by authoring an article on law firm money management for the Oklahoma Bar Journal. These efforts demonstrated his dedication to personal growth and ethical practice, even in the face of adversity.

In December 2022, Mr. Gierhart took a significant step towards reinstatement by filing a petition with the Oklahoma Supreme Court. On June 27, 2023, the court granted his petition, finding clear and convincing evidence of his rehabilitation. This reinstatement restored his membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association. This lets the attorney return to serving clients in the Choctaw and Oklahoma City areas. His journey back to good standing supports his ethical practice and professional responsibility. Mr.

Gierhart holds a Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University, earned in 1981, and a Bachelor of Arts in Letters from the University of Oklahoma, obtained in 1974. He is admitted to practice in Oklahoma and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Throughout his career, he has participated in continuing legal education seminars and has been an active member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. Additionally, he has engaged with local community organizations in Choctaw, Oklahoma, further demonstrating his commitment to both his profession and the community he serves. As of February 21, 2026, Mr. Gierhart is in good standing with the Oklahoma Bar Association and continues to provide legal services to clients in his area.
