About Douglas L.

Douglas L. Toering is a partner at Mantese Honigman, P.C. He combines formal training in law and economics to approach legal problems from several angles. That dual background shapes how he analyzes facts, frames issues for clients and prepares for litigation.

He earned a B.S. in economics from Grand Valley State University before attending Wayne State University Law School, where he completed his J.D. The economics degree informs his work on damages, risk assessment and case valuation. His legal education provided courtroom fundamentals and an introduction to the procedural work that underpins litigation.

Toering advanced through private practice to a partnership role at Mantese Honigman. In that capacity he has overseen matters from intake through resolution, managed teams of attorneys and staff, and handled client communications on complex issues. His role requires juggling case strategy, discovery planning and the business side of legal practice. He also takes part in mentoring associates and helping to shape firm procedures.

On any given matter he spends time on investigation, document review and drafting pleadings. He is comfortable in written advocacy and in the organization of factual records that support legal arguments. He works with experts when a case requires technical or economic analysis. When settlement is possible, he helps negotiate terms that reflect the strengths and weaknesses of a client’s position.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and pragmatic in court preparation. He tends to break large problems into discrete tasks and set clear timelines for completion. That approach suits complex files that require coordination among multiple participants and deadlines.

Outside the office he has maintained ties to legal education through occasional speaking and training for newer lawyers at the firm. He has also remained interested in how economic principles intersect with legal remedies and damages calculation.

He continues to practice in private law firm settings and participates in the daily work of client representation. He is currently a partner at Mantese Honigman, P.C., where his practice focuses on civil litigation and client counseling.
