About Douglas
Douglas Hatherley studied political science at the University of California, Berkeley before earning his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He entered legal practice after law school and spent his early years learning courtroom procedure and settlement work through a series of clerkships and associate positions. Those experiences included a law clerk role at the Law Offices of Diana P. Zitser in 2008 and work at the Law & Mediation Offices of Pauline Rosen in 2009, where he also served as an associate and law clerk and took a judicial externship with the Los Angeles Superior Court the same year.
Hatherley moved into associate roles after passing the bar, joining the Law Offices of Korol and Velen in 2010 and then Dishon & Block, APC in 2011. By 2014 he was practicing family law at Holstrom, Block & Parke, APLC, and the next year he worked at Stegmeier, Gelbart, Schwartz & Benavente, LLP. Those positions exposed him to a range of family law matters and helped him develop litigation and negotiation skills across contested and uncontested cases.
In 2024 Hatherley received certification as a Family Law Specialist from the California Board of Legal Specialization. That credential is awarded after a defined period of practice and testing in family law and indicates he met the board’s requirements for specialization. It complements the years he spent handling custody, support and property issues in California courts and before mediators.
His career path reflects steady movement into family law practice. He combined clerkship work and courtroom exposure early on with more focused practice at firms that concentrate on matrimonial and family disputes. Colleagues and clients have known him for taking cases through trial when necessary and for resolving matters at settlement conferences and in mediation.
Hatherley now practices at The Hatherley Firm, Inc., where he carries the Family Law Specialist certification. He is licensed in California and continues to handle a range of family law matters for individuals and families. He currently represents clients in family law matters at The Hatherley Firm, Inc.
