About Douglas D.

Douglas D. Maner studied law at Pepperdine University School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1992. He entered legal practice in California and later joined the rolls of the California State Bar in 2004. His legal education came at a time when courtroom practice was shifting; he has practiced through several phases of criminal procedure reform and evolving trial technology.

Maner’s career shows long-standing ties to criminal defense organizations. He holds membership in the National Association of Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers and belongs to the California Public Defenders Association. He is also listed among the National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers. Those affiliations reflect a practice shaped by trial work and by networks of defense practitioners around the state.

His involvement extends to state-level professional groups. He is a current member of California Lawyers for Criminal Justice, an organization that brings together attorneys who handle serious criminal matters. That membership signals ongoing engagement with peers on issues that affect defense practice, court procedures and legal standards.

Over the years Maner has represented clients in various criminal matters. Courtroom work and jury trials appear regularly in his background, and he has developed practical experience handling evidentiary disputes, plea negotiations and pretrial motions. His trial experience informs how he prepares cases and evaluates whether matters should proceed to verdict or be resolved through negotiated outcomes.

Colleagues and observers note his practical approach to case strategy. He balances the demands of evidence law and procedural deadlines while maintaining a clear line of communication with clients. That approach aims to give clients a realistic assessment of risks and options. He has worked both in adversarial settings and in collaborative phases of defense practice, where strategy often shifts as new facts or forensic reports emerge.

Maner maintains an office at 1500 J St. in California, where he meets with clients and handles case preparation. His practice remains centered on criminal defense matters in California courts. He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense in California.
