Dorian Cartwright is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2002. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Cartwright is the founder and principal attorney at the Law Office of Dorian Cartwright, a firm specializing in intellectual property law, particularly patent prosecution, located in San Jose, California. He has been practicing law for over 24 years, serving clients throughout the Silicon Valley area and beyond.
Mr. Cartwright earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he was a member of the Iowa Law Journal and served as an assistant to Professor Mark Janis, who teaches patent law courses. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He also earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. This strong technical background complements his legal education, enabling him to effectively navigate complex patent matters.
Mr. Cartwright concentrates his practice in the areas of patent prosecution, patent litigation, and patent licensing. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving computer networking, computer architecture, microprocessors, video compression and recognition, social networking, mobile applications, digital and analog circuits, and robotics. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cartwright has handled cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as a patent associate at Fenwick & West LLP in Palo Alto and Mountain View, California, representing clients such as Cisco Systems, IBM, Google, Apple, and Intuit.
Mr. Cartwright is an active member of the California State Bar and is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a black belt instructor in Brazilian jiu-jitsu of the Gracie tradition. His technical expertise, combined with his legal experience, allows him to provide comprehensive intellectual property services to his clients.
