About Donna M
Donna M Chesteen moved from code to counsel. She earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1989 and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 1995. She added an MBA at UCF in 2008 and completed her J.D. at Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in 2012. The sequence of degrees traces a steady progression from technical specialization to law and business study.
Her early career was technical and hands-on. In 1997 she worked as a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Symantec. That role came after years of study in computer science and before she moved into law. She spent time as a law clerk at Smothers Law Office in 2011 while completing law school. The year after graduating, she established her own practice.
In 2012 she opened The Tech Law Office, PLLC and has run it since. That move turned a technical background into legal practice. She represents clients in matters that require an understanding of software, systems, and electronic evidence. She is admitted to practice in Florida and Mississippi.
Her work has a clear practical bent. She teaches e-discovery topics for Solo Practice University and serves as Orlando liaison for ESI Roundtable, a role she has held since 2013. Since 2014 she has been treasurer of Orlando Tech, Inc., and she remains on the faculty at Solo Practice University. Those roles place her between the legal community and regional technology networks, and they inform how she approaches cases for small firms and solo practitioners.
Clients and colleagues describe someone who can translate technical detail into legal strategy. Her engineering background helps when cases involve electronic evidence, data handling, or software issues. She structures workflows and evidence collection with knowledge of how systems store and transmit information.
Her practice is modest in scale but specialized in content. She balances client work with teaching and community roles. The Tech Law Office operates as a small firm that advises on technology-related legal issues, electronic discovery, and practice management for solo and small law offices.
She practices in Florida and Mississippi, handling technology law, e-discovery, and counsel for solo and small law offices.
