About Diane L.
Diane L. Drain earned her law degree from the University of Arizona in 1983. She moved into practice at a time when bankruptcy law was undergoing significant change. That early training set the stage for a career that has mixed courtroom work, teaching and professional leadership.
Drain began teaching and training other legal professionals within a few years of entering practice. She has served as an instructor at the Arizona School of Real Estate since 1988 and later taught at Phoenix School of Law and Arizona Summit Law School. Her role at Arizona Summit included a decade as an adjunct professor from 2007 until 2017. Those classroom years sit alongside a long record of continuing legal education presentations and practical instruction for newer lawyers.
In 1991 she established the Law Office of D.L. Drain, P.A., where she has practiced for many years. Her admissions include the Arizona bar and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Over three decades she has handled consumer bankruptcy matters and related consumer law issues, representing individuals and advising on case strategy, filings and post‑confirmation questions.
Beyond her private practice and teaching, Drain has taken on sustained roles in the legal community. She was a member of the State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors from 1998 until 2018, a period that covered two decades of policy and governance issues for the state bar. In 2005 she co‑founded the Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel (ACBC) and continues as its co‑executive director. That organization reflects long‑standing involvement in the development of consumer bankruptcy practice in Arizona.
Colleagues describe Drain as a practitioner who balances courtroom work and client counseling with education. She has combined litigation, filings and creditor negotiation in her caseload while also preparing clinicians and students for practice realities. Her published records and public leadership roles have emphasized practical problem‑solving rather than theoretical debate. She currently focuses on consumer bankruptcy and related matters.
