About Derrick E.
Derrick E. George built a quiet, steady path into the law. He began at Michigan State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1997. He continued his studies at Columbia University and earned a Master of Science in 2000. He then moved west and received his J.D. from the University of Denver in 2005.
After law school he spent time in the federal courts. In 2004 he served a judicial clerkship at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado. The clerkship offered early exposure to complex financial and procedural issues. It also gave him experience writing opinions and managing detailed case records.
He entered private practice in 2006 and founded George Law, where he has served as lawyer and counselor. The firm grew from those first years of solo practice. Over time his work shifted toward criminal defense and related matters. He holds a Lead Counsel certification in DUI defense, a credential that reflects a concentration on impaired-driving cases.
Outside the courtroom he has been active in bar and community organizations. He held a treasurer role for the Chaldean American Bar Association from 2010 to 2011. He served as treasurer and secretary of the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan between 2014 and 2017. From 2016 to 2017 he was secretary of an American Bar Association committee and concurrently a fellow with the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and attentive to procedural detail. He has balanced court appearances with case development and client meetings. His background in bankruptcy chambers early in his career informs how he addresses evidence and financial records in other kinds of matters.
He is licensed to practice in Michigan and continues to accept cases through George Law. He maintains a practice that emphasizes criminal defense and DUI-related representation in Michigan courts.
