About Deron Edward
Deron Edward Smallcomb built a career at the intersection of business and immigration law. He holds a J.D. (2005) from Empire School of Law, an M.B.A. (2002) from Santa Clara University, and a B.S. in Business Administration (1998) from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He also pursued legal studies at Oxford University and Santa Clara University in 1999. The mix of business training and legal study shaped the practical approach he would bring to clients.
His professional path moved quickly from entrepreneurship to law practice. In 2009 he launched EasyFianceVisa.com, LLC, an online resource tied to immigration filings and family-based immigration services. Three years later he founded Modern Law Group, P.C. and remains its owner. That firm maintains offices in California and New York and represents clients across all 50 states. He is admitted to practice in California and Texas and has appeared in matters before the Ninth Circuit.
Smallcomb’s memberships reflect steady ties to the bar and to immigration practitioners. He has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2012 and participates in its San Diego chapter. He joined the American Bar Association in 2017 and has held an ongoing relationship with the Better Business Bureau since 2010. Those affiliations sit alongside the day-to-day work of preparing petitions, advising on family-based immigration pathways and assisting businesses with visa matters.
Colleagues and clients see his business background in the way he frames cases. He often structures filings with an eye toward operational details important to employers and entrepreneurs. That translates to practice in family-based matters as well. He has handled fiancé visa work through the platform he created and continues to take on a mix of family and employment immigration matters at Modern Law Group, P.C.
Smallcomb’s career is marked by an emphasis on systems and scalability. He has combined technology and law in client-facing products while running a multi-jurisdictional practice that can escalate matters to federal appellate courts when needed. He continues to serve individuals and businesses from offices in California and New York, practicing immigration law and related business immigration matters.
