About Derick
Derick Runion is an attorney who practices personal injury law in the Southwest. He trained at Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, and later returned to ASU to complete his Juris Doctor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. He built his legal foundation in classrooms and clinics that emphasized practical skills alongside doctrinal study.
After law school, Runion entered civil litigation. He is admitted to practice in both Arizona and New Mexico and has spent his career representing individuals rather than institutions. His work has taken him into state courts across the region, where he handles cases that arise from collisions, workplace incidents and other harms that produce serious losses for clients.
Runion is part of a team at Curiel & Runion Personal Injury Lawyers. He works out of the firm’s offices in Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson. In that setting he divides his time between client intake, case investigation and court filings. He prepares pleadings, negotiates with insurers and appears in hearings when the case requires a judge’s intervention.
On the trial side, Runion manages the steps that precede a courtroom appearance. He gathers medical records, consults with experts and coordinates depositions. He also evaluates settlement proposals and counsels clients on realistic outcomes. His practice requires careful attention to deadlines and state rules of civil procedure in two separate jurisdictions.
Colleagues describe him as someone who prefers direct work over publicity. He focuses on the facts of each case and on documenting injuries and losses in a way that juries and adjusters can understand. That often means translating medical reports into clear narratives and assembling demonstrative evidence that supports a client’s claim.
Outside the office, Runion’s path reflects regional ties: an Arizona undergraduate education followed by law school in the same state, and a practice that spans Arizona and New Mexico. He remains based at Curiel & Runion Personal Injury Lawyers and continues to represent injured people from the firm’s Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson offices. He currently focuses on representing injured individuals in Arizona and New Mexico from Curiel & Runion offices in Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson.
