About Derek Eugene
Derek Eugene Horne earned his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 2004. He left law school at a time when many new lawyers moved straight into private practice. He chose a path that mixed public service and firm work, and that variety has shaped his career.
Early on he worked for the United States Commission on Civil Rights as a lawyer beginning in 2006. That role placed him in a federal setting where governing statutes and policy reviews are routine. The experience added a public-law dimension to his resume and exposed him to issues that extend beyond courtroom work.
In 2009 he took a diplomatic post as Vice Consul at the British Consulate in the Greater Atlanta area. The consular assignment brought a different set of responsibilities and perspectives. It required handling matters that intersect law, administration, and international concerns while working in a governmental and diplomatic environment.
He returned to private legal practice and by 2013 was the managing lawyer at Michael G. Hostilo, LLC. In that capacity he oversaw daily operations and casework for the firm. Four years later he founded his own practice. In 2017 he opened The Horne Law Office, P.C., and has led the firm since then. The office operates in Georgia, where he is licensed to practice.
Throughout his career he has maintained professional memberships and stayed active in legal circles. Those associations have kept him connected to colleagues in both public and private sectors. He has combined federal experience, consular service, and firm management in a career that crosses several legal settings.
He now leads The Horne Law Office, P.C., handling a range of legal matters for clients in Georgia.
