About Derek Deake
Derek Deake Lim is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1996. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Lim is the founder and principal attorney at The Law Offices of Derek Lim, a law firm with offices in Fremont and San Francisco, California. He has been practicing law for over 30 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mr. Lim earned his Juris Doctor degree from the New College of California School of Law in 1995. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Riverside, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1978. During his time at New College of California, he focused on areas pertinent to his future practice, including immigration and personal injury law.
Mr. Lim concentrates his practice in the areas of immigration law, personal injury, family law, estate planning, and business law. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving workplace discrimination, wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, premises liability claims, and various immigration issues. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lim has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Alameda, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Fremont for five years.
Mr. Lim is an active member of the Alameda County Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He is also a member of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. Mr. Lim is fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Chaozhou Dialect, Thai, and Laotian, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area effectively.
