About Demitrus Thomas
Demitrus Thomas Evans trained across three continents before settling into practice that spans international and domestic questions. He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1991. Soon after, he studied constitutional law at The University of Nairobi in 1994. He later returned to formal study in business and law, completing Business Studies at The Joseph School of Business in 2007 and an LL.M. in International Business and Trade at The John Marshall Law School in 2009.
Those academic stops shaped an early career that mixed public interest work and private practice. In 1996 he served as a Ralph J. Bunche Fellow for the Mid-West region at Amnesty International, an experience that exposed him to human rights issues and policy advocacy. He moved into private practice two years later, joining the Law Office of Ted Stein as an associate in 1998. The following year he took a managerial role at Willis & Associates, listed as Managing Lawyer in 1999, where he began handling more complex client matters and supervising other lawyers.
His professional path reflects an interest in cross-border transactions and constitutional questions. Study of international business law and a later LL.M. informed his handling of trade and commercial disputes that involve multiple jurisdictions. At the same time, his time in Nairobi and his fellowship work left him comfortable with constitutional litigation and rights-based claims. He has balanced transactional work with litigation and policy-driven matters throughout his career.
In practice he has moved between counsel roles and firm leadership. Those shifts gave him experience running files end to end and managing client expectations across different legal systems. He also developed practical skills in managing small teams and coordinating outside counsel on international matters. Over time he assembled those elements into a practice that addresses both business clients and parties seeking relief on constitutional or human rights grounds.
Today he operates from The Evans International Law Offices, LLC. His office handles international business and trade matters, constitutional law questions and human rights-related cases, and cross-border work that combines transactional and litigation elements. He practices from that firm and continues to work on matters that cross national and legal boundaries.
