About Dawn Chere

Dawn Chere Sequeira built a legal path that begins in the sciences and moves into immigration law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in 2001 from American University, where she studied biology and took a minor in criminal justice. She later returned to American University Washington College of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 2007.

After law school, Sequeira entered private practice. Her early career included an associate role in 2008 at Patel Law Group (Chirag V. Patel, P.A.), where she handled day-to-day client matters and gained courtroom experience. Several years later she joined USILAW, Inc. as an associate in 2015. That year marked a turning point: she launched Legacy Immigration, L.L.C. and took on the role of founder and principal lawyer. The firm is located in the ISN Building and operates as a small practice addressing immigration issues for individuals and families.

Sequeira is admitted to practice in New York and in the District of Columbia. She holds memberships in professional organizations that relate to federal and international practice. Since 2016 she has been listed as a member of the Federal Bar Association and of the District of Columbia Bar’s International Law Section. Her memberships reflect engagement with peers who handle cross-border and federal questions.

Her background in biology and criminal justice gives her a different foundation than many who go straight from undergraduate study into law. It has shaped how she approaches casework: careful review of factual records, an emphasis on procedural accuracy and attention to evidentiary detail. Those habits carried her through associate positions and into running her own firm, where operational responsibilities join client representation.

Colleagues and clients describe Legacy Immigration as a compact practice where Sequeira handles both the legal analysis and the routine client work. She prepares filings, represents clients before administrative bodies and advises on documentation that can affect immigration outcomes. The firm’s structure keeps her involved in every stage of a case, from intake through resolution.

Sequeira lives and works in the region served by her bar admissions and maintains active ties to the legal organizations where she has held membership since 2016. Her current practice centers on immigration matters and the counsel she provides at Legacy Immigration, L.L.C.
