About David William

David William Jacobsen trained first as a sociologist and then as a lawyer. He earned a B.A. in Sociology, concentrating on law, crime and deviance, from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2002. He went on to receive his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 2006.

He began practicing in the region soon after law school. In 2009 he opened The Law Office of David W. Jacobsen, LLC and handled matters from a small office base. By 2011 he had joined Hero, Jorstad & Jacobsen Law Office, P.A. as a shareholder. In 2020 he took on the title of President at Jacobsen Law Office, P.A., a position he holds while maintaining an active local presence.

Jacobsen is licensed to practice in Minnesota and appears before the Prairie Island Tribal Court. He has kept his practice rooted in southern Minnesota, maintaining a primary office in Northfield and a satellite location in Wanamingo. Those offices serve clients across Rice County and neighboring communities.

Beyond his day-to-day work for clients, Jacobsen has been involved in a range of local and professional organizations. He has been a member of the Rice County Bar Association since 2011 and joined the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2009. He also belongs to the 1st District Bar Association. Civic and fraternal activity figures in his public life: he has served as Secretary of Northfield Sertoma since 2012, acted as Junior Warden at Masonic Lodge 34 in Cannon Falls, and holds membership with Osman Shrine in Saint Paul. He has also been active in the Kenyon Area Business Association and served as its president.

Colleagues describe him as steady and practical at the courthouse and in client meetings. He has moved from solo practice to partnership and then to leading his own firm. The trajectory reflects a practitioner who has kept his work local while expanding the structure around it.

Jacobsen’s practice continues from his Northfield and Wanamingo offices. He represents clients in matters arising in Minnesota and in the Prairie Island Tribal Court and maintains involvement in local bar and civic organizations while running Jacobsen Law Office, P.A.

He currently practices from offices in Northfield (primary) and Wanamingo, representing clients in Minnesota courts and in the Prairie Island Tribal Court.
