About David
David Varet is an attorney licensed to practice in Florida. He built his legal foundation at Florida State University College of Law, earning his J.D. in 2012. The law school years gave him both classroom training and early exposure to the rhythms of courtroom practice.
He began his career immediately after law school in public defense. In 2012 he joined the Office of the Public Defender for the 9th Judicial Circuit as an Assistant Public Defender. In that role he handled trial dockets, appeared regularly before judges, and worked directly with clients facing criminal charges. The job demanded quick legal analysis and steady courtroom presence. It also required managing heavy caseloads and collaborating with investigators and social service providers.
Two years later he moved into private practice. In 2014 he became a partner at Bourdon & Race, PLLC. The shift brought new responsibilities. He took on case management duties and a supervisory role for more junior lawyers. He also continued to appear in court and to prepare cases for trial. His background in the public defender’s office informed how he evaluated evidence and prepared defenses.
Outside of case work he maintains memberships in professional organizations. He participates in the routine exchanges of continuing education that keep lawyers current on changes in law and procedure. Colleagues describe him as someone who pays attention to the details that matter in contested hearings.
Varet’s experience spans the stages of criminal litigation. He has worked on pretrial motions, handled bench and jury trials, and engaged in plea negotiations. The practical knowledge he gained in public service remains a reference point for how he approaches cases now in private practice.
He continues to practice in Florida and is based at Bourdon & Race, PLLC. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and trial work in state courts.
