About David

David Schleicher earned his J.D. from Baylor Law School in 1987. He completed his legal education at a time when appellate work and federal practice were growing more complex. That timing helped shape the direction of his subsequent career.

After law school, Schleicher built a practice centered on appeals and federal litigation. He is admitted to practice before the D.C. Circuit, the Federal Circuit and the Fifth Circuit, and he also holds admission in the courts of the District of Columbia and the State of Texas. Those admissions reflect a long engagement with both federal and state appellate processes.

Over the years he has focused on the work that defines appellate practice: close record review, careful brief writing and preparation for oral argument. He has handled matters that turn on procedural questions, statutory interpretation and administrative-law issues. He approaches each matter by parsing the record and tailoring arguments to the standards of review that appellate courts apply.

Colleagues and opponents alike describe him as methodical. He favors clean, issue-driven briefing. He believes appellate judges respond to clarity and compact presentation. That preference shapes how cases are framed from the outset. It also affects trial-level decisions about preserving issues for appeal.

Schleicher’s admissions to multiple federal circuits has required sustained attention to differing court rules and practice norms. He has spent years refining how to present similar legal theories in venues that apply varied precedents and procedural habits. That work can involve coordinating filings across jurisdictions and adjusting tactical choices to each court’s expectations.

In courtroom settings he prepares for oral argument with a focus on the precise questions likely to determine the outcome. His preparation emphasizes predictable lines of questioning and concise answers. He also works to anticipate how judges will read the record and what gaps opposing counsel may leave.

Today he maintains an active appellate and federal practice. He represents clients before federal and state appellate tribunals and handles complex appellate briefing and argument across the jurisdictions to which he is admitted. His current practice concentrates on appellate and federal-court matters.
