About David
David Rutledge is a Louisiana-licensed attorney who built his legal foundation across several Louisiana institutions. He trained in both civil and common law at Loyola University New Orleans, earning his J.D. in 2010. Before law school he studied Political Economy at Tulane University and completed a B.A. in Political Science and English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2005. Those years of study inform his approach to legal questions today.
After finishing law school, he moved quickly into court work. In 2010 he served as a law clerk for the Twenty-Seventh Judicial District Court. The following year he took a position as a law clerk to the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana in Lafayette. Those clerkships exposed him to both state and federal court procedure and the day-to-day workings of trial dockets.
Rutledge’s early experience combined academic training and courtroom exposure. The Civil and Common Law curriculum at Loyola gave him a comparative perspective on legal systems. His time in two different courthouse settings honed practical skills: drafting opinions, managing case files, and preparing legal research for judges. Colleagues from that period describe him as methodical and precise in written work.
He later established a private practice under the Law Office of David Rutledge, LLC. Running a small firm required him to handle a range of tasks beyond litigation — client intake, case strategy, and the administrative demands of a solo operation. The move into private practice allowed him to apply lessons from the bench to representation in the courtroom.
Rutledge is admitted to practice in Louisiana and continues to work in the state’s courts. He represents clients through his firm, drawing on his background in civil and common law and his clerkship experience to guide case preparation and courtroom work. He practices law through the Law Office of David Rutledge, LLC, representing clients in Louisiana courts.
