About David Robert

David Robert Shelvey attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he completed his legal education before entering practice. The law school years provided the foundational training he carried into work across multiple state systems. He left Cooley prepared for the practical demands of litigation and counsel in regional markets.

He is admitted to practice in both Washington and North Dakota. That dual admission shapes his approach. He is accustomed to switching between two sets of procedural rules, client expectations and court calendars. Handling matters in more than one jurisdiction requires attention to detail and a willingness to adapt to different local practices.

Over the course of his career, Shelvey has built experience in cases and matters that cross state lines or require coordination between offices in different states. He has developed an understanding of how seemingly small differences in state law can affect strategy. Colleagues and clients have looked to him for steady courtroom preparation and thorough case management. He combines the technical training from law school with hands-on experience to manage filings, hearings and client communications across jurisdictions.

Shelvey’s work has included advising clients on procedural issues, shepherding cases through local court systems and coordinating with other lawyers where multi-jurisdictional attention is needed. He tends to approach problems methodically. He prepares written submissions with a focus on clarity, and he prepares witnesses and evidence for hearings that may occur in either Washington or North Dakota.

Today he practices with Rockcraft, PLLC. At the firm he handles matters that draw on his knowledge of both states’ systems. He works with clients who require counsel familiar with Washington and North Dakota rules, calendars and court expectations. He currently concentrates on serving clients in Washington and North Dakota through his work at Rockcraft, PLLC.
