About David Preston
David Preston Crandall built his legal foundation in Ohio and New York before launching a career that would span several states. He earned a B.A. in political science from Cedarville University in 1993 and completed his J.D. at New York Law School in 1998. Early work in the New York City Law Department while still a student gave him practical courtroom and municipal experience that informed his later practice.
He joined Waits Brownlee Berger & DeWoskin as an associate in 1998 and remained with the firm as he advanced to partner in 2006. That period solidified his work in estate planning and elder law. In 2008 he left to serve as a principal of Legacy Planning Advocates, Lawyers & Counsellors at Law, LLC, an opportunity that expanded his role advising families and fiduciaries on long-term plans and probate matters.
Crandall moved into a director role for The Mutual Fund Store in 2015, overseeing estate planning services within a financial-services environment. He returned to private practice as a lawyer at Creative Planning Legal, P.A. in 2017. The next year he opened his own practice, Crandall Law Group, where he continues to lead a small team advising clients across multiple jurisdictions.
He is licensed to practice in Kansas, Missouri and California. Professional associations have been a steady feature of his career. He has held membership in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association since 1998 and has been involved with the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2008. He is also a long-standing member of the Christian Legal Society. Past roles include service on the board of the National Network of Estate Planning Lawyers from 2008 to 2013 and participation in the Academy of Veterans Administration Pension Planners between 2012 and 2017.
Crandall’s practice emphasizes estate planning and elder law. He handles wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and probate administration. He also advises on veterans’ pension planning and related benefits, drawing on his years of work with veteran-focused planning organizations. His practice blends transactional planning for families with guidance through administration and claims processes.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and detail-oriented in client matters. He has moved between roles in private firms and organizational settings, then chosen to return to private practice to lead his own firm. He continues to practice through Crandall Law Group, where he concentrates on estate planning, elder law and related services.
