About David N.
David N. Metnick earned a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2004 after completing undergraduate work in economics at the University of Arizona. He moved from academic study into legal practice at a time when many young lawyers chose to try both government and private-side work. That early mix set a steady pattern for his career. He is licensed to practice in Illinois.
In 2007 Metnick took a post at the McHenry County State's Lawyer's Office listed as Assistant State's Lawyer. The role placed him inside a public office environment where he handled daily courtroom procedures, case preparation and the demands of a government caseload. Working in a county office gave him exposure to prosecutorial processes and the operations of local court systems.
By 2015 he was working in private practice as an associate lawyer at Hupy and Abraham. That move shifted his daily work to the private firm setting and brought new responsibilities. As an associate he managed client matters, coordinated with more senior attorneys and adapted to the case-flow rhythms of a larger practice. The change also broadened the kinds of disputes and administrative tasks he encountered.
Across both public and private roles, Metnick developed experience in litigation-adjacent practice areas, courtroom work and client-facing duties. His background shows time spent preparing filings, attending court and collaborating with colleagues in different office structures. Colleagues describe him as steady in handling procedural tasks and careful in preparing records for hearings and trials.
Metnick’s career has included membership in professional associations. That involvement has kept him connected to peers and the evolving rules and practices that govern litigation and courtroom procedure in Illinois. He has maintained a practice that crosses familiar lines between public service and private representation, moving between government office responsibilities and the demands of a private firm environment.
He currently practices law in Illinois from offices in Rockford, Gurnee and Bloomington.
