About David Michael
David Michael Blain is an attorney who earned his J.D. from Whittier Law School in 2007. He completed his legal training at a time when many young lawyers moved quickly between firm practice and public service. That early trajectory set the tone for his career.
He began his professional life as an associate lawyer at Robinson Calcagnie Robinson Shapiro Davis in 2007. He joined the firm in the year he graduated from law school and worked alongside litigators handling the firm’s caseload. The role gave him immediate exposure to the routines of firm practice and the demands of managing client matters.
In 2009 he took a position as a law clerk at the San Diego District Lawyer's Office. In that capacity he performed legal research, drafted pleadings and memoranda, and supported attorneys preparing for hearings and trials. The clerkship added public-sector experience to his resume and provided additional courtroom-facing work.
Blain is licensed to practice in California and is admitted to the Federal Circuit. Those admissions allow him to appear in state courts and to handle matters that reach the federal appellate level. Over time he has balanced work that arises in state forums with matters that implicate federal appellate procedure.
He now operates the Law Offices of David M. Blain. The office handles a mix of matters that include civil litigation and appellate issues. His practice brings together experience from a private firm setting and from time spent in a public-law office. He represents clients in filings, briefs and court appearances in California and in proceedings that advance to the Federal Circuit. He currently focuses his practice on civil litigation and appellate work in California and at the federal appellate level.
