About David J
David J Deganian trained at the University of Georgia and Georgia State University College of Law before starting a career that has moved between public service, teaching and private practice. He earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Georgia in 2003 and received his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law in 2006. The timing set him up to enter practice immediately after law school.
He began his legal work as an assistant public defender in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit in 2006. There he handled criminal defense matters for clients who could not otherwise afford counsel. The work was courtroom-centered and exposed him to a steady flow of trial-level practice early in his career.
By 2009 his resume showed a mix of nonprofit and private roles. He served as an associate at The Advocator Group and took on pro bono work with the Environmental Law Foundation. The next year he was a Public Interest Law Fellow at the University of Georgia and then a staff lawyer at GreenLaw. Those posts reflect a stretch of his career spent on public interest and environmental issues, involving both client representation and policy-oriented legal work.
In 2012 he stepped into the academy as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Barry University School of Law. The classroom role lasted while he continued to move through different legal settings. In 2013 he worked as a lawyer for GENEX Services, Inc., and in 2014 he joined Morgan & Morgan. The sequence shows a lawyer comfortable shifting among public, academic and corporate environments.
Deganian maintains memberships that span state and institutional lines. He is a current member of the State Bar of California and remains connected to the University of Georgia School of Law’s Public Interest Fellowship. He continues as a visiting professor at Barry University School of Law and serves as a City of Atlanta legislator. Those overlapping roles mean he balances teaching, public office and casework concurrently.
Today he is listed at Morgan & Morgan. His practice includes litigation and advisory work, and he continues to teach and serve in municipal office. He remains active in the professional and civic organizations that he joined earlier in his career.
