About David I.
David I. Rickey trained first as a student of international affairs before turning to the law. He earned a B.A. in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Central Florida in 1986. He then attended the University of Florida’s Fredric G. Levin College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1989. Those years set a foundation that combined broad-minded study with the technical demands of litigation.
He moved quickly into practice after law school. In 1989 he worked as a medical malpractice lawyer at Woolfolk, Estes, Keough & Jordan, handling matters that introduced him to courtroom procedure and client advocacy. He served in the Army Reserve as a staff sergeant beginning in 1990. Two years later he joined Morgan & Morgan, where his title is listed as lawyer beginning in 1992. The sequence of positions shows a steady turn toward trial work and civil advocacy.
Rickey is admitted to practice in Florida and to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He is board certified in Workers’ Compensation Law by The Florida Bar, a credential that signals specialized training and testing in that area. He holds current membership in Florida Workers’ Advocates. Those affiliations reflect an emphasis on state workers’ compensation systems and the professional networks that support that work.
Across his career he has handled both individual client matters and the demands of litigation practice. Early work in medical malpractice exposed him to complex files and medical issues. Later work and certification steered him toward workers’ compensation law, where statutory detail and procedure matter in every case. He has practiced in state and federal settings and is familiar with the filing and hearing processes that workers’ compensation cases require.
Colleagues and clients see him as a practitioner who combines courtroom experience with an understanding of the medical and regulatory issues that often arise in injury matters. He balances litigation tasks with case preparation, hearings and negotiations. He has maintained his practice at Morgan & Morgan since joining the firm in the early 1990s and continues to work there.
He currently practices workers’ compensation law at Morgan & Morgan.
