About David
David Gunn built the foundation for his legal career at the University of Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 1999 and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Missouri School of Law in 2003. Those years in St. Louis shaped his familiarity with the region’s courts and the practical contours of practice in Missouri.
After law school Gunn entered practice in an area reflected by his workplace. He is admitted to practice in Missouri, to the Tenth Circuit, and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Those credentials allow him to appear in both state and federal bankruptcy matters and to engage with the federal rule set that governs insolvency cases in the region.
Much of his professional life has been spent at The Bankruptcy Company. There he works on matters that arise when individuals and businesses confront insolvency. His day-to-day work involves the mechanics of filing, creditor communications, and courtroom appearances in bankruptcy proceedings. He has experience counseling clients through the choices bankruptcy presents and in managing post-filing processes when cases move into the administrative stages.
Gunn has taken on roles that extend beyond client files. He has been a member of the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri since 2015. That committee reviews and recommends adjustments to the court’s local procedures. Beginning in 2017 he joined the Bar Association for Metropolitan St. Louis and became involved in the Pro Se Assistance Program. In that program he serves on the steering committee and acts as co-manager for the Post-Filing Volunteers. Those positions place him at the intersection of the court, pro se filers, and volunteer attorneys who assist after a case is filed.
His reputation in the local bankruptcy community is tied to steady court involvement and committee work rather than to high-profile litigation. He practices where the paperwork, scheduling and procedural demands of bankruptcy often determine outcomes as much as legal theory. He currently practices at The Bankruptcy Company, where his work centers on bankruptcy matters and related federal procedures.
