About David G.
David G. Ridings began his professional life in law enforcement and later brought that ground-level experience into private legal practice. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, Psychology and Sociology at Middle Tennessee State University in 1983, then returned to MTSU for a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1988. He earned his J.D. from Nashville School of Law in 1994.
Those academic credentials were followed by steady hands-on experience. Ridings served internships at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in 1987 and at the Tennessee Board of Paroles in 1988. He joined the Murfreesboro Police Department in 1988 and later served as a police officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department in 1990. In 1997 he worked as an assistant district lawyer intern in the Metro Nashville District Attorney’s Office, a role that bridged his policing background with courtroom work.
Ridings launched his own firm in 1998 and has practiced under the name Ridings Law Group, P.C. since then. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Sixth Circuit (Middle Division). Over the years his practice has handled criminal defense matters, DUI cases and legal issues affecting law-enforcement personnel. He has represented individual clients in court and provided counsel to organizations connected to public safety.
His professional affiliations reflect both sides of his career. He has been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police since 1989 and has provided legal services for its members. He has been a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1999. Since 2018 he has held membership in the DUI Defense Lawyers Association. He serves as general counsel for the Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association, a post he has held since 2005, and he holds membership in the Southern States Police Benevolent Association.
Colleagues and clients point to his combination of street-level policing experience and courtroom practice as a practical asset. He works in criminal and administrative matters that touch on policing and public safety. He continues to operate Ridings Law Group, P.C., handling criminal defense, DUI cases and legal matters for current and former law-enforcement personnel.
